Hello, my name is Anna Rose Tegarden and I am very honored and pleased to receive the Will Smith Scholarship. I give my thanks and gratitude for your support towards funding this award. Here is some information about myself. I was born in 1980, right here in Murfreesboro, TN. My love for the outdoors has always prompted me to spend as much time as possible exploring through the woods, seeing what I could discover. As a child, I always came home with rocks and treasures in my pockets, which my mother would find at laundry time. Today spelunking is a great passion for me, as well as photography and canoeing, I still come home with my pockets full of rocks. While assisting at the Mineral, Gem and Fossil Museum, I had the opportunity to travel to Tucson, Arizona for one of the largest shows of its kind in the country. While there I met people from all over the world, and expanded my knowledge about a subject I am most enthusiastic about. With the support and guidance of Professor Albert Ogden I have come to see and realize the important aspect that geology plays in all our lives. I am currently a Junior at Middle Tennessee State University, majoring in Geology with a minor in Geographical Techniques. I hope to use the skills and knowledge that I’ve obtained and apply them in the world around us. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely express my deepest thanks again for your generous gifts toward funding this award.
