Jessica Marie Beard is a native of Lewisburg, Tennessee. She graduated in 2004 with highest honors from Marshall County High School and fully intended to be an advertising major--until she fell in love with geology. Jessica's primary geologic interest is mineralogy/crystallography for which she will be part of a research program this summer at the University of Notre Dame. Besides being very active in the geoscience department through work with introductory geology students, the Mineral, Gem, and Fossil Museum, as well as maintaining a 3.87 GPA, Jessica is an employee of the MTSU Department of Athletics/Business Office, a McNair scholar, a student member of the American Association of University Women, a student member of the Geological Society of America, an MTSU Presidential scholarship recipient, a Tennessee Lottery scholarship recipient, and will soon be a charter member of the MTSU chapter of Sigma Gamma Epsilon. Jessica is also active in helping boy and girl scout troops earn their geology merit badges through the Mineral, Gem, and Fossil Museum. Before her graduation in Summer 2008, Jessica intends to experience study abroad in Europe or Africa. Upon graduation, Jessica will continue to a geochemistry graduate program from which she will most likely go on to pursue a doctoral degree.
